As a Marketing Executive in the Business Development organization
at IBM, I am responsible for serving the marketing needs of women
and minority businesses throughout the eastern region of the U.S.
My role includes support and development of women and minority business
owners with technology, as well as tailoring IBM's marketing techniques
and product offerings to meet the needs of this marketplace. I started
my career at IBM as an industrial engineer and over the past 20
years have held various technical, marketing and management positions,
with the past ten years focused on marketing IBM's products and
services to small businesses. I have a B.S. in Industrial Engineering
from Rutger's College of Engineering and an MBA from Marist College.
The most exciting part of my career has been my current position
where I have had an opportunity to interact and work with many women
and minority owners of their own companies. It has been extremely
interesting and rewarding to hear the stories of these entrepreneurs
and then to apply my knowledge and resources in the technology area
to help them work on growing their businesses.
The most challenging part of my career was making the decision to
go to college as an engineering major. I was one of the first in
my family to go to college at all and then to major in a predominately
male oriented field was a tough decision. I had no role models.
I knew, however, that I loved math and science and wanted a technical
career. Engineering presented many options and gave me the opportunity
to practice, more than I ever expected, my math and science skills.
At this point, I believe I made the right choice.
