I wrote about Pfeisteria and politics and got really great
answers. Now I
have a question about a part of an answer. Joan Lusk said
"Politics has to
do with the division of responsibilities, rights, wealth and
power." I have
not thought about what exactly politics means and I like the
definition.
Are there other things beside responsibility, rights, wealth
and power that
politics cover?
P.S. I had never seen negative political ads on TV until
recently ( I lived
overseas). AWFUL STUFF

In response to Lauren's previous question, "What would
you say is the #1 invention of all human time?" Joan
suggests a new question along the same lines . . . read on

I was sure someone would say the telephone! Not to mention
the
ubiquitous cell phone. How about the zapper machine that removes
my
number from the computerized calling lists - that's a good
one.
Let's have some really frivolous answers here - what's the
cleverest
funniest invention that you "can't live without?"
How about Lycra?
Permanent press? Post-it notes?

Q: (Initially posted on 11/4/02) FROM MENTEE JENNY N. IN AR
The standardized testings that the young children take have
really low scores
around where I live. Especially in math and Science. I know
Arkansas is at
the bottom of the list when it comes to education, and I was
wondering if
anyone had ideas that I could use to help try and get the
children here more
interested in Math and Science. If we could just get some
children interested,
I feel that children will be eager to learn and that the test
scores will go
up. If you have any ideas I would greatly appreciate them.

Q: (Initially posted on 10/29/02) FROM ABBY Y. IN CT
I'm trying to decide which science courses I should take during
my senior
year of high school. I want to take AP Inorganic chemistry,
but due to other
course requirements, I can only take one other science class.
If I want to
study chemistry and complete pre-med requirements in college,
which course
do you think would be more helpful, AP Physics C or Human
Anatomy?

Q: (Initially posted on 10/29/02) FROM MENTEE RETRINDA A.

I'm in a career choosing situation and I'm planing on going
to collage but
don't know what to go after. There is a program at school that
I'm interested in
called the ETC PROGRAM. What this program does is let you
start early on the
career that you have in mind. This program gives you practice
in the fields you
want to be in so that you can be familiar with it and know
whether or not you
still want that to be your career. Is GEM-SET along these
same lines and are
there classes I should be taking to get started on a career
path that suites
me? I know that I want to be in the technology field, but
I don't know what
direction to take. HELP!!
