GEM-SET member Ivy H. shares her experiences as
Microsoft High School Intern this past summer.

Dear GEM-SET,

I had such a fun learning experience doing an internship at Microsoft this summer. I first learned about the Microsoft internship program from my CISCO teacher at school, and I decided to apply because I wanted to find out what working in the technology field would be like. For the whole summer, I worked with the Tablet PC Performance Test Team and had a mentor who gave me advice and answered all my questions. I even got my own Tablet PC to use! During the two months in which I was at Microsoft, I learned how to run automation tests, found bugs on a feature of the Tablet PC, learned C#, and with my mentor's help, used it to create a webpage. The best part was being able to interview various people at Microsoft and learn about the different roles in the process of producing software. I made valuable contacts with the people that I worked with, and the internship let me experience work life in a corporate company. It made me realize that a career in the technology field was a real possibility. I encourage all of you to do an internship because it is a very fun and valuable experience in which you may find out more about your interests and figure out what you may want to pursue in the future.

Sincerely,

Ivy H.
