Air travel
Chicago is served by two major airports: O'Hare Internation Airport and Midway International Airport. Both the airports are approximately equidistant from the UIC. If you are coming down from either of the airports, we recommend using the CTA, its about 30 minutes of journey and costs $1.50.
Alternatively you could take a cab. Expect to spend approximately $35 to $40 for a taxicab ride to downtown Chicago. Some numbers of the cab companies in Chicago are:
- American United (773) 327-6161
- Flash Cab Co. (773) 878-8500
- Jiffy Cab Co. (773) 561-1444
- Yellow Cab (312) 225-7440
Getting to UIC
The UIC is located to the west of Chicago downtown. The Chicago area is served by public transportation agency: the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA), which runs the light rail (subway and elevated train) and bus system in the city of Chicago. We highly recommend the RTA trip planner, which provides detailed timetable and trip planning information covering both systems and interconnections between them.
If you are taking the CTA train, you should plan to arrive at the Halsted stop on the Blue line. From the El station, walk southwest about 400 yards through the campus toward the Engineering Research Facility (ERF) to reach the Civil and Materials Engineering Department, located on the second level of the ERF.
