Babies and You
This adult parental health promotion program is designed for implementation in the workplace. The Babies and You program addresses the concerns of prospective parents, pregnant employees and their families. It consists of seminars and/or the distribution of public health education material to help men and women explore their health habits and attitudes related to childbearing.
Parents of the Future
This is a preventive health education program for high school-aged youth. The purpose of the program is to educate students on the key role good self esteem and decision making skills have in making healthy lifestyle choices. Discussion topics include nutrition, STD's, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, sexuality and the causes and prevention of birth defects. The curriculum is designed to show students how lifestyle choices affect their health as well as the health of the developing fetus.
Salute to Babies
Salute to Babies is a health awareness program which enlists religious leaders from all faiths and denominations to deliver to their congregations information about infant mortality and low birthweight. It also includes encouragement to parents and prospective parents to practice those health habits which will help to insure a healthy baby.
Speakers Bureau
Educating the public about the mission and the programs of the March of Dimes is the Speakers Bureau's primary purpose. By doing this, the Speakers Bureau raises the awareness of the status of infant and maternal health in our area.
Project Alpha
Through a cooperative agreement between the March of Dimes and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, the program Project Alpha is designed to involve African-American males in addressing the problem of teen pregnancy. This one-day seminar includes group discussions on human reproduction, STD awareness, values and goals, and issues revolving around teen pregnancy.
HealthWorks Theatre
Through a cooperative agreement between the March of Dimes and HealthWorks Theatre, a musical production titled "Don't Wait Until You See Me" is conducted in high schools in conjunction with the Parents of the Future program. The production addresses the importance of prenatal care with humor and music while sending a serious health care message.
High Risk Moms
A support group for problem pregnancies is made available through High Risk Moms, Inc. and is supported by the March of Dimes through a cooperative agreement. Support networks and education are provided to moms who have had or are having problem pregnancies.
Healthy Choices for Healthy Babies
This is a series of community outreach training seminars designed to increase the effectiveness of case-finders in promoting prenatal care and healthy lifestyle habits pregnant and preconception clients who are traditionally at risk for having low birthweight babies.
Material Distribution-Information and Referral
As a free, public service, the March of Dimes provides public health education literature and videos to schools, community agencies, hospitals, businesses, individuals and families. Also provided is information and referral to other agencies and organizations who can further provide support to individuals in need of assistance due to birth defects.
