- WalkAmerica is the largest annual walking event in the world
and the largest annual volunteer activity in most communities with:
- 1 million people walking each year
- A total of 13 million people involved nationwide as walkers, sponsors and volunteers staffing checkpoints and offering refreshments.
- WalkAmerica takes place in 1,480 communities in all 50 states. Since 1970, WalkAmerica has raised more than $900 million to improve the health of America's babies.
- 19,000 companies, associations, schools and community groups nationwide form teams of individuals who participate in WalkAmerica. These teams are called "TeamWalk" and raise 85% of the event's income.
- Teamwalk companies, associations, schools and community
groups are recruited in the fall and registerwalkers through a series of over 300 kick-off events and other activities that occur during January, February and March.
- As part of TeamWalk, middle and upper management executives are recruited through CEO breakfast events organizedby local March of Dimes chapters.
- WalkAmerica takes place on the last weekend in April.
