Physician and Radiologic Technologist Training Programs.
The University of Illinois at Chicago, leader in Coronary Artery Scanning,
now provides Training Programs for Physicians and CT Technologists.
I want to take this opportunity to welcome you to the University of Illinois at Chicago, Arlington Heights EBT Research and Training Center. The University of Illinois at Chicago is one of the leaders worldwide in performing and interpreting EBT coronary calcium studies. To date, we have performed over 60,000 studies. Our staff is truly the most experienced in performing and interpreting EBT coronary calcium exams.
The detection of subclinical coronary artery disease is of paramount importance. Even though there has been a significant and impressive decline in coronary heart disease mortality, the incidence of coronary disease is increasing. Recently we have been able to evaluate and measure the presence of subclinical coronary artery disease using EBT coronary artery calcium screening. The University of Illinois initially began EBT coronary artery calcium screening in 1989. In 1993 the EBT coronary calcium screening program was offered to physicians for their patients, and directly to individuals with risk factors. Presently there are over 200 papers in peer reviewed journals attesting to the usefulness of EBT coronary calcium screening.
The University of Illinois at Chicago has two sites where EBT coronary calcium studies are performed. Studies may be performed at the University of Illinois Medical Center or at our Arlington Heights facility. Both sites are also involved in EBT research studies. The University of Illinois has been selected by the National Institute of Health as one of six EBT centers nationwide to participate in a very important study known as MESA, Multiethnic Subclinical Atherosclerosis Study. One facet of this study is to examine the development of coronary calcification in a multiethnic cohort. Needless to say, this is one of most important studies examining subclinical coronary artery disease.
We realize that many of you come from different radiology backgrounds. Our program is structured to accommodate your specific educational needs. Additionally, you will need to master certain diagnostic and interpretative skills relating to EBT coronary calcium screening. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. Remember, we want to make this a premier learning experience.
When you have successfully completed our program of instruction, you will be given a certificate of competence in EBT coronary calcium screening. Also please feel free to call us should you have any questions after you complete your training.
