Paratransit in Chicago: Pace Starts Extensive ADA Outreach

Pace understands ADA paratransit service is a crucial lifeline to persons with disabilities. To alleviate any apprehension Chicago residents with disabilities may have about Pace as their new service provider, Pace is undertaking one of the most extensive public outreach efforts ever done by the agency.  Beginning next week, Pace will hold 50 public meetings in 65 days - one in just about every City ward - to inform paratransit riders, the media, elected officials and other interested parties about the details surrounding this change. To make sure everyone knows about the meetings, more than 20,000 letters were
sent out about them to anyone who has used the service in the past year. Additional mailings are planned for May and June.

A complete list of the meetings can soon be found on Pace's Web site,www.pacebus.com . The first one will take place April 12 at the Chicago Department on Aging & Disability (Southwest Center), and forums will take place nearly every day after that until June 15. Most are held at libraries or other public buildings, and the meeting times are varied (even on evenings and Saturdays) to give everyone a chance to attend.
