Women with Severe PMS needed $100

Thank you for your interest in our new research study.
This study will enroll 100 women evenly distributed between the ages of 18 and 53 who are not currently taking hormones (e.g. birth control). The women will participate in the study for two menstrual cycles. The women will come one time to Rush University to sign consent, and to have a complete physical including lab work (all paid for by the study). Results of the physical will be sent to you to keep or share with your practitioner. Every day in the study the women will complete a questionnaire about their feelings/symptoms for the previous 24 hours. This will take about 5-7 minutes per day. Also, on days 3, 6 and 9 of the menstrual cycle, women will have a blood draw to examine their hormone levels which change throughout the menstrual cycle. Blood draws can be done at Rush, or a phlebotomist can come to your home. We are trying to make things easy for our participants. These procedures will be repeated the next cycle.

Women who complete the study will receive $100.

I would love to have you screen for this study to determine your eligibility. This screener would take about 5 minutes to complete. Please e-mail Katherine at kburg1@uic.edu with your age, race/ethnic background, and phone number.

Assistant or Associate Professor- clinical track, New Orleans, Louisiana

Position Announcement

The Human Development Center (HDC) is Louisiana's University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, Education, Research and Service (UCEDD).  HDC is housed within the School of Allied Health Professions on the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) campus.  LSUHSC-HDC is located in New Orleans, Louisiana.  As commonly known, the city of New Orleans experienced one of the nation's worst natural disasters a year and a half ago.  Many citizens with disabilities and their families were, and continue to be, significantly affected by the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.  The storm also destroyed the former physical location of HDC. Although hurricane Katrina had many negative impacts on the lives of our citizenry, the impact of the storm also serves as the backdrop for historic opportunities to respond to the needs of Louisianans with disabilities.

LSUHSC-HDC seeks to fill two faculty positions (Assistant or Associate Professor- clinical track) with qualified individuals who desire to be part of the rebuilding of the center and creating new responses to the needs of Louisiana's citizens with disabilities.   We seek one faculty member to serve as Director of the center's Community Living Initiative and another to serve as Director of the Early Learning Initiative.  Successful applicants must be familiar with the purpose, function and values of UCEDD and be prepared to provide vision and leadership to a team of dedicated faculty and staff in the respective initiative area.

Required Qualifications:

Earned doctorate in an appropriate field (e.g., Special Education, Nursing, Social Work)
Experience providing direct services to individuals with disabilities and families
Experience supervising professional staff responsible for teaching and/or supporting individuals with disabilities and families
History of conducting training and/or providing consultation services to individuals/organizations that teach and/or support persons with disabilities and families
Evidence of potential to secure extramural funding
Evidence of potential to be a productive scholar and researcher

Responsibilities of Director of Initiative Area:

Leadership, supervision and professional development of Initiative Area faculty and staff
Encourage team-work within and across Initiative Areas of the Center
Manage budgets for Initiative Area grants, contracts and projects
Secure supplemental funds to "grow" the Initiative Area
Serve as a member of the Center's Management Team
Develop or expand an active line of research
Participate on University, School and Center work-teams and committees

Rank/Compensation:

Highly qualified candidates with a proven record of accomplishment will start at the rank of Associate Professor- clinical.  Candidates with less experience but strong potential may be offered Assistant Professor-clinical rank.  Individuals serving in clinical track positions may switch to tenure track upon request.  Salary is negotiated commensurate with experience and rank.
