ImpacTeen will identify and track tobacco control policies at the state level for all 50 United States and the District of Columbia to evaluate their effectiveness in reducing mortality, morbidity, and psychosocial problems associated with substance use and abuse. Gary A. Giovino, PhD, MS, Director
Dr. Giovino received his PhD in Experimental Pathology/Epidemiology from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo in 1987. Dr. Giovino was Chief of the Epidemiology Branch in the Office on Smoking and Health for most of his 10 years at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He is now a Senior Research Scientist at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York. Major areas of study include patterns, determinants, and consequences of tobacco use and dependence. His research focuses on adolescents and racial/ethnic groups. He has contributed to more than 130 scientific publications, including several reports of the Surgeon General. He is a member of the Scientific Core Group of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Research Network on the Etiology of Tobacco Dependence and heads the State Database component of the RWJF-funded ImpacTeen project. He also serves as a Senior Editor for Tobacco Control: An International Journal.

K. Michael Cummings, PhD, MPH
Dr. Cummings is a senior cancer research scientist and director of the Tobacco Control Program at the
Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, New York. He also holds the position of Professor in the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo where he teaches graduate courses in cancer epidemiology and health behavior. Dr. Cummings received his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. He is nationally recognized as an authority on smoking issues and has contributed to several Surgeon General's Reports on Smoking and Health and an Institute of Medicine Report on nicotine addiction in children. He is a member of the New York State Commission on Smoking or Health and serves as a consultant to the California Health Department's tax-funded anti-tobacco campaign. Dr. Cummings is a senior editor for the journal Tobacco Control and is author of over 120 published scientific papers; most of which are on the topic of tobacco control. His current research interests focus on public policy approaches to tobacco control.

Andrew Hyland, PhD
Dr. Hyland is a researcher at the
Roswell Park Cancer Institute. He received a master's degree in statistics and a doctoral degree in epidemiology from the State University of New York at Buffalo. His research focuses on the evaluation of tobacco policies and tobacco surveillance, and he has published on a variety of tobacco-control topics.

Cindy Tworek, MS, MPH
Ms. Tworek is a research associate at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute and is completing her doctoral degree in epidemiology from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She received a master's degree in public policy analysis and a master's degree in public health from the University of Rochester. Her research interests include tobacco control and cancer epidemiology. She has worked at the Research Institute of Addictions (Buffalo, NY), where she studied family and adolescent interaction related to alcohol use.

Mike Smith, BS
Mr. Smith is a research affiliate at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute and is completing his masters degree in epidemiology from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He received his bachelor's degree in biology from St. Bonaventure University. His research insterests include tobacco policies and tobacco control.
