Dear Colleagues,

I write to inform you of the departure of Prof. Ali Mansoori from the Editor-in-Chief position of the Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering. After eight years of distinguished and dedicated service to the Journal Dr. Mansoori left as of January 1, 2008 to concentrate on his outstanding research and educational activities.

The Journal made substantial progress under Dr. Mansoori's editorship over the past eight years and the impact factor of the journal tripled. In addition to editing over 800 unsolicited manuscripts during the past eight years Dr. Mansoori initiated and edited the following thirty (30) special issues on the following topics in the journal which increased the international scientific status of the journal appreciably:

Petroleum exploration and production research in Australia, Volume 57, Issues 1-2, May 2007.
Reservoir organic geochemistry: Processes and applications, Volume 58, Issues 3-4, September 2007 .
Natural gas hydrate/clathrate: The major organic carbon reserve of the Earth, Volume 56, Issues 1-3, March 2007.
Petroleum production research in the Middle East, Volume 55, Issues 1-2, January 2007.
Petroleum production research in Brazil, Volume 51, Issues 1-2, 16, April 2006.
Artificial intelligence applications in petroleum exploration and production, Volume 49, Issues 3-4, 15 December 2005.
Intelligent computing in petroleum engineering, Volume 47, Issues 1-2, 15 May 2005.
Petroleum exploration and production research in the Middle East, Volume 42, Issues 2-4, April 2004.
Petroleum and natural gas exploration and production research in China, Volume 41, Issues 1-3, January 2004.
Petroleum production research in Brazil, Volume 32, Issues 2-4, 29 December 2001.
South Caspian Basin special issue, Volume 28, Issue 4, December 2000.
Non-Renewable Energy Sources special issue, Volume 26, Issues 1-4, May 2000.

Much of the Journal's progress in the past eight years is a result of Prof. Mansoori’s efforts. I hope that you will join me in thanking him for his dedicated and energetic service to the Journal and to the advancement of the petroleum science and engineering knowledge around the world, and wishing him well in his new endeavors.

Sincerely,
