St.Claire Drake and Horace R. Cayton's Black Metropolis provided a more accurate account of the zones of city growth than Burgess' original. The Black Belt just didn't fit into the notion of ethnic succession. As the years passed by, the African American ghetto grew, it didn't wither away.
