Microhydrodynamics, Diffusion and Membrane Transport
Microhydrodynamics, Diffusion and Membrane Transport
Week #07: February 26 - March 2, 2007 (Classes #13-14)
Reading in Lecture Notes:
Section(s) 11 & 12
MATERIAL
- 1st reflection and leading variable mass
effect for a sphere translating perpendicular
and parallel to a planar wall
- Reflected field for a point source near a sphere.
LEARNING GOALS
Upon reviewing the material for this week,
you should be able to:
- Determine the magnitude of the leading reflection solution for a
pulsating or moving sphere near a planar wall or other fixed sphere.
PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS
After doing the homework for this week,
you should be able to:
- Calculate (via the method of reflections) the leading wall
effects and particle-particle interactions for flow fields and
virtual masses due to pulsating or moving spheres.
- Obtain reflected fields to cancel out the uniform, linear
and quadratic components of an incident field on a sphere
