My name is Kortni Rogers. I am a 16 year junior at Lindblom Technical High School in Chicago. My mother is Dorothy Rogers. She is a housewife and a full time mother. My father is Kenneth Rogers. He is retired from the Chicago Transit Authority and now works for Midway Airport. I have one older sister and two older brothers.
I have lived in Chicago all my life. Living here has been fun. However, I don't feel that Chicago is for everyone. Living in my neighborhood, I have found myself in situations that many people don t have to deal with. For example, I have to be extra careful when I leave the house at night because the neighborhood is so dangerous. You have to know how to present yourself so that people don't think unkindly of you. Growing up in this environment has developed my character and taught me respect. I am able to get along with all different kinds of people.

I am interested in the field of health care and, in particular, working with babies. In my spare time away from school I work. I work because I love to shop, go out with friends, and buy music. I also work because I don t like asking others for too much.

Despite its location, Lindblom is a good school. I like Lindblom because of the people and their different personalities. I also like Lindblom for its teachers. Most of the teachers are very outgoing and helpful when it comes making sure you understand the material. I appreciate the fact that the teachers expect nothing but the best from each student. That makes me feel like I accomplished my goals.

I became interested in the field of health care because I like to work with people. I chose to go into pediatrics because I like working with and being around children. I think I will enjoy the field of health care and I look forward to a long and successful career.

I became interested in the Urban Health program because of its goal to help minorities who are interested in the field of health care. The program provides mentoring to minority high school students to improve their grades. At the end of the program, Urban Health helps students get into the colleges of their choice.

Saturday College is a program that helps improve your grades. It is a program that requires students to be active in class. The class that I enjoy the most is my math class. I like this class the most because my teacher provides us with a lot of useful information. All my teachers are different in that most are not just teachers. They are chemists, business owners, and professors at U.I.C. Last summer, one of the experiments that we conducted required us to take two tadpoles home and raise them for ourselves. Although the project was fun, and a first for everyone, our biology teachers were upset to find out that none of the tadpoles lived longer than two months.

My goals are to be successful and to enjoy whatever it is that I am doing ten years down the road. I don't have any intention to fail or let anyone else mess up my plans. In my opinion, I am too good to waste my time on stupid activities that don't force me to use my brain. I feel that more young people should try to do things for themselves so that they fully understand the meaning of hard work.

Eugenia Cobbinah was a student who attended Lindblom. Even though she was there a year before I started, I have learned many things about her. In addition to her school work, she was very involved in a ton of extracurricular activities. During her senior year her father died of cancer. Even through she was dealing with this tragedy, she continued to attend school and did her best. She was a very intelligent young individual who died tragically a few days before her graduation.

I feel you should donate to the Eugenia M. Cobbinah Memorial Scholarship Fund because it is a worthy cause. The scholarship will benefit many underprivileged students with college aspirations. Sadly, Eugenia lost her life at a very young age. Through the children that benefit from her scholarship fund, she will be remembered.
