The 3-on-3 Old School Challenge
No fast breaks. No easy lay-ups. Nowhere to hide.
Tragedies to Triumphs: The Eugenia M. Cobbinah Memorial Scholarship will hold its 2nd Annual 3-on-3 basketball fundraiser on Saturday, December 18, 1999 at 4 P.M. at Hoops The Gym, 1380 W. Randolph. There is a $100 minimum entry fee per team. T-shirts and prizes included.

The scholarship commemorates the life of Eugenia Cobbinah, the Lindblom High School honors student who was murdered in a drive-by shooting two weeks before her graduation.

To date, Tragedies To Triumphs has raised close to $15,000 – earmarked to grow and send Chicago Public School students to the University of Illinois at Chicago where Eugenia planned to attend the College of Nursing. The first scholarship recipient, Kortni Rogers, plans to enroll at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the fall of 2000.

This year, schedule permitting, Cook County State’s Attorney Dick Devine will enter a team and Illinois Congressman Rod Blagojevich will toss up a ceremonial jump ball. Both are strong advocates of ending senseless handgun violence and improving educational opportunities for urban students.

If you know of any friends or associates that would like to participate, please forward their mailing addresses by telephone or e-mail to Richard Lufrano at 404-352-5877

We hope you will be able to join us for an evening of pick and rolls, 3-point bombs, blood, sweat and aching knees.
