ICA Message
Division Head Comments
We had a successful meeting in Acapulco, although with significantly fewer papers submitted than for our meeting last year in San Francisco. I would certainly encourage anyone with interests in our division to submit both papers and panel ideas for the conference next year in Washington, D.C. Remember that we encourage panels to feature senior scholars or innovative presentations that will draw an audience.
Our last meeting in D.C. was in 1993, and it provides an excellent venue for exploiting the political resources of the nation's capital. Feel free to be creative in drawing on local political, media, or think-tank figures. Vice-Head Christina Holtz-Bacha, at the University of Mainz, Germany, will be coordinating the papers and panel programming for these next two years, and your contributions should be forwarded through the ICA headquarters for transmission to her. If you are willing to assist the division with reviewing chores and with serving as panel chairs and discussants, please let Christina know.
Wolfgang Donsbach and I will be representing the division at the upcoming International Association of Media and Communication Research conference in Singapore. A joint panel of ICA and IAMCR representatives is planned to introduce ICA to that organization, which although smaller is significantly more international in its membership and outlook.
I appreciate all of you who helped with division chores over the last year, and I look forward to seeing you again soon. Please share your ideas with me and Christina about making the next program more useful and stimulating to our membership.
