Education and Training
It is difficult to find research-based information on the education and
training experiences of girls and women. In this section, we point you
toward the credible information that we have found. We invite you to
inform us about other available sources of gender-specific research on
education.
You will see that the bulk of statistical findings on the education of US
women and girls comes from two main sources: the US Census and the
National Center for Educational Statistics. Most other projects will
utilize the data from these main sources. Most of the information found
from these sources is not disaggregated by gender.
- US Census Bureau
http://www.census.gov/
When you look under subject headings of the census, the only item
related to women is "women owned businesses." There are however
gender-specific data that can be found by extensive searching as we have
done to include some of the information on the RIN pages that
follow.
- The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES)
http://nces.ed.gov/index.html
The Purpose of the Center is to collect and report "...statistics
and information showing the condition and progress of education in the
United States and other nations in order to promote and accelerate the
improvement of American education." Much of the data is not broken down by
gender.
