Applications of Assistive Technologies and Universal Design (Joy Hammel, Ph.D)

Objective

to increase understanding and use of assistive technology and universal design applications among older adults with mental retardation, their families, and providers.

Target Audience

Adults, families, providers, academic personnel, policy officials, adaptive equipment manufacturers and crafts persons.

Progress to Date

Produced technical information to help staff understand how to apply AT-EL assessments and programs for older adults with I/DD. Provided a series of technical workshops in a variety of states providing information for caregivers on issues related to normative aging related changes. Provided technical assistance on the design and implementation of a AT long term support and advocacy instrument (the ATLAS).
