Product Outputs

Exercise and Nutrition Health Education Curriculum for Adults with Developmental Disabilities (contains 36 modules for a 12 week program; modules can also be used on a "stand alone basis;" handouts for trainees and a "Trainee Notebook" to set personal goals and chart progress; includes a trainer's guide).

Training Content

Helps adults with disabilities understand the value of exercise, how they can personally benefit, and teaches choice making skills to develop health promotion goals and action plans.

Progress to Date

49 individuals have completed the program.

Utility of the training

Analyses of the pre and post assessments indicate significant increases in peak VO2 performance; weight used in bench presses and leg presses; and a significant improvement in step-test performance. Participants also exhibited significant increases in perceived energy, life satisfaction, exercise knowledge, exercise perception, barriers to exercise, social-environmental supports, and self-efficacy to perform exercise.
