Illinois Council for Exceptional Children Fall Convention

The Illinois Council for Exceptional Children is hosting its 57th Annual Convention, ICEC 2006, at the Hyatt Regency Woodfield in Schaumburg, Illinois on November 2nd, 3rd and 4th. To recognize the wide range of topics and working relationships in the field of practice, the theme of this convention is "All Inclusive."

This opportunity should not be passed up! Students will have a chance to network
with other students/Universities, hear about current issues in government and
special education, learn new teaching techniques and strategies, and create career
connections.

Kohl McCormick StoryBus at UIC on 9/28!

The Kohl McCormick StoryBus will be parked in Lot 11 just outside of the College of Education for all to visit this Thursday, September 28, from 3-4pm.

The bus will still be available from 4-7pm, but students from several graduate courses will be touring the bus, so it may get a little crowded!

4th INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TEACHER EDUCATION AND SOCIAL JUSTICE

The Center for Anti-Oppressive Education will be hosting a conference at UIC on January 12-14, 2007. The registration fee for the conference will be waived for all UIC students and faculty, so be sure to plan to attend!

Proposals for Research or Curriculum Presentations are currently being accepted. Proposals on all topics regarding teacher education and social justice are eligible for consideration. Proposals related to the conference themes of Initiatives From the Right and Innovations in Teacher-Education Curriculum Design are particularly encouraged.

Fragile X Education Seminar

The Fragile X Resource Group of Greater Chicago will host its third annual Education Seminar on Saturday, October 28, 2006, at St. Xavier University in Chicago, Illinois. The event will feature experts in the field of fragile X syndrome from the M.I.N.D. Institute of the University of California, Davis, as well as speakers from Rush University and the University of Denver, Colorado.

Speakers will address a range of issues confronting parents, therapists, and educators of people with fragile X Syndrome. The seminar runs from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. and costs $75.00 per person. Continuing education credits will be available through St. Xavier University.

STEP=UP Multimedia Induction Module

STEP=UP has been working since January to collect and catalog the thoughts, advice and experiences of dedicated special education professionals to create an online, multimedia induction module for new teachers.

We're happy to announce that a preview of this module is now available at http://www.uic.edu/orgs/stepup/preview/.

The module contains audio, video and digital photographs from experienced teachers' classrooms, as well as sample lesson plans and other materials designed to inspire new teachers in their first few years of teaching.
