April 4, 2006 Field Advisory

In the year's final field advisory,
students also bring literacy artifacts
to share with their groups.
UIC and CPS partners gathered for the final field advisory of the year on April 4, 2006.
CPS Partners shared artifacts from their classrooms. Morgan brought an ant farm (with live ants!) which he has been using in his classroom as a way of regulating behavior. Taryn showed examples from a lesson she gave on note-taking. Jennifer talked about the "Shopping Cards" she uses in her class. Each shopping card has a picture of a different kind of food, and students use the cards to identify items in the grocery store while shopping.
UIC Partners also stepped up their participation in the discussion for this field advisory. Many students brought artifacts from their own teaching and observations. Some examples of UIC Partner artifacts included self-portraits students had completed, which incorporated symbolic animals and colors, a pre-writing assignment students used to help prepare to write a horror story, and an illustrated comparison chart, comparing Anglo-Saxon heroes to contemporary heroes.
Other UIC Partners came prepared to discuss issues of practice, based on what they have learned in their coursework and fieldwork this semester.
