Branco Ponomariov
Branco Ponomariov is a post-doctoral researcher in the Public Administration Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He arrived at UIC in 2006 from Georgia Institute of Technology where he obtained his PhD in Public Policy, with specialization in Science and Technology Policy. His dissertation investigated the central role that students play in university-industry interactions. Some public policies attempt to alter behavior by changing the organizational context in which it occurs. Such policies raise research problems requiring both public policy and public management expertise. In his research Branco addresses the managerial and organizational implications of policies relating to the organization of the scientific enterprise, as well as the implications of reform movements in the public sector such as greater reliance on outsourcing. Branco conducts research on how recent science policy innovations (such as the proliferation of university-based research centers) impact the traditional academic reward systems, the collaboration and coordination patterns of scientists and graduate students. He also studies the managerial implications of rapid increase of outsourcing in state transportation agencies.
