Yonghong Wu

Yonghong Wu is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Program in Public Administration at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Yonghong was a graduate in physics, and taught Physics of High Energy Electrical Particles in Tsinghua University (P. R. China). He received his Ph.D. degree in Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Syracuse University in May 2004 with specialization in Budgeting and Public Finance, Science and Technology Policy, and Public Administration Theory. His research interests focus primarily on technology-based economic development policy, and strategic interactions among municipal governments in fiscal policymaking.

Combining his expertise in science and technology policy and public finance, Yonghong has been interested in the that role state government plays in fostering economic growth through encouraging business investment in research and development (R&D).  One of his articles examines how the state R&D tax credits promote additional industrial R&D expenditure in the states. While he continues to explore the effects of state R&D fiscal incentives on state’s innovative and economic performance, Yonghong’s current research has been on the evaluation of NSF’s Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). The EPSCoR research will produce important evidence regarding the impact of a geographically targeted funding mechanisms on the research capacity and academic competitiveness of EPSCoR states, as well as on individual researchers working in the states.
