Listserv Lists and User Groups

There are several listserv lists and user groups that post news and information on issues of concern to SUAA members, SURS annuitants and survivors, and employees of the universities and colleges within SURS. The first, SUAATALK, exists to exchange information and ideas about SUAA and SURS. The list is kindly hosted by Eastern Illinois University. Further information about the list may be obtained from the list moderator, John Terwilliger, jeterwilliger@eiu.edu. If you would like to join this list, go to the SUAATALK website and follow the instructions in the section entitled Subscribing to SUAATalk.

The second list is the UIC Chapter's list: UICSUAA. This list focuses on retirement issues of particular concern to UIC employees and retirees. If you are a SUAA member but are not subscribed to this list and wish to join, send an email to the Chapter's webmaster at suaa@uic.edu. Include your name and email address. And be sure to advise the webmaster of any changes in your email address.

Third is the Illinois Public University Employees Group within the Yahoo! Groups. This electronic bulletin board describes itself as "a place for Illinois Public University and Illinois Community College Employees to discuss and coordinate matters relative to the welfare of ALL state of Illinois employees of higher education". A Yahoo! account is not required to receive email from this list, only to participate in the online group, online polls, chat, postings, etc. To subscribe without creating a Yahoo! account, send an email to: illinoisuniversityemployees-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. Professor Jeffrey Brown's Blog

Professor Jeffrey R. Brown, the William G. Karnes Professor of Finance and Director of the Center for Business and Public Policy at UIUC, has a blog dealing with public pension funding in Illinois. The topics in his various recent postings are timely, in light of the State's current fiscal crisis and the public focus on pension reform.

The UIC Chapter has a blog located at http://uicsuaa.blogspot.com. It is designed to serve as a forum for online discussion of topics of interest related to retirement, pensions, and benefits. Feel free to post a question, comment, relevant news item, or start a discussion "thread". (A Google account is required to do so, however.)
