The four week sports medicine clerkship at
UIC-Christ draws on the extensive resources available here to introduce you to the
principles of caring for athletes.
During the clerkship you will care for athletes in our own
office under the supervision of Dr. Sangili Chandran,
the director of our Primary Care Sports Medicine Center. You will also spend time
caring for athletes in a subspecialty sports medicine clinic. In the fall,
opportunities are available to attend high school football games at which Dr. Chandran
serves as team physician.
In addition to case-specific discussions, a Tuesday
afternoon
lecture series provides didactic training in sports medicine principles and practice, and
hands-on training in musculoskeletal physical diagnosis.
You will have opportunity to learn the fundamentals of
conditioning, and preparticipation screening examination and assessment. You will
collaborate with certified athletic trainers in the care of student athletes. You
will also learn to manage common sports-related injuries including sprains, groin pulls,
hamstring injuries, shin splints, heat injuries, altitude illness, stress fractures, and
head trauma.
Through this combination of didactic and hands-on training,
you will improve your knowledge and skill in the care of well and injured athletes. |
