| At UIC-Christ, we take medical students
seriously. As a medical student, you are considered an integral part of the patient
care team, not a mere observer or "add-on". In patient care activities,
you will usually interview and examine the patient first, form your own assessment and
plan, and then discuss them with your resident or attending preceptor. (On the other
hand, you will never be asked to care for a patient without having help and supervision
right at hand--this ensures a secure learning environment). We
encourage our students to participate in and, when appropriate, perform procedures common
to family practice, such as skin surgery and suturing, splinting and casting, flexible
sigmoidoscopy, office lab procedures, gyne exams and colposcopy, etc. Each of our
available clerkships, described below, is guided by explicit learning objectives to which
we hold ourselves and our learners accountable.
Most importantly, WE HAVE FUN! We relish giving caring,
comprehensive, continuing care to families in a supportive practice environment that
fosters life long learning skills. And we love sharing our enthusiasm with
you. Our students regularly comment on how supportive, non-intimidating, and
approachable our residents, nurses, and physician faculty are toward students.

expecting you. |
