One Community, One Humanity
For the sixth year, UIC is presenting a mix of provocative and entertaining events to mark UNITY MONTH.
The Human Relations Foundation of Chicago has designated
September as UNITY MONTH. This celebration is designed
to increase sensitivity to issues of gender, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual
orientation, and ability/disability. At UIC, we want to share the remarkable
diversity of our campus with the diverse communities surrounding the university.
The mix of people, cultures and beliefs that make up UIC is one of our major
strengths.
Student organizations, campus committees, and departments can take an active part in Unity Month by planning an activity. These activities can range from lectures or panel discussions to cultural or social events and entertainment. Student organizations were especially encouraged to plan an event which promotes cross-cultural involvement through interaction of groups that might not typically interact. This could be a speaker, a musical performance, a film, an anti-racism workshop, etc. These events are listed on our on-line calendar.
Any student organization or department that would like to sponsor an event to be listed on the Unity Month Calendar should call the Office of Community Relations (312-413-3380). Accepted submissions will be published in our calendar of events. Your submissions will also be considered for inclusion on the web site calendar.
If you would like to get involved in planning Unity Month, or have questions about the Month, please contact the Office of Community Relations (M/C 102), 1330 UH, 312-413-3380).
