Initiatives

WISE is responsible for several programs at UIC:

  • ASCEND (Assuring STEM Credential Expansion through Nurturing Diversity) is a NSF funded program to increase the number of students who stay in STEM majors.

  • WISE Neighbors is a grant program to assist community organizations and schools provide programs for young women interested in science.

  • WISE Chic(ago) is UIC's student group for female students in science and engineering, supported by WISE. Every year, WISE Chic plans several educational and social events for the student body. This year, we plan to go on fieldtrips to local centers of science and engineering industry, invite several speakers, and (as always) have lots of fun! Visit the Events page to find out about the next WISE Chic meetings and events.

  • Girls E-Mentoring in Science, Engineering and Technology (GEMSET) Visit our GEM-SET website to learn about the exciting girls' online-mentoring program.

  • Women in Science and Engineering System Transformation (WISEST) Learn about initiatives to promote gender equity among faculty at UIC.

  • The WISE Wing is a living/learning center in UIC's West Commons Resident Hall. Residents of the WISE Wing are able to attend monthly pizza and movie parties, hear motivational speakers, and engage in other programs. To apply for space in the WISE Wing, please contact Tony Martin in the Office of Housing at 312-355-6320.
