Climate Study
This is in three parts: the first part is the Climate Survey Questionnaire and its analysis. The second part consists of qualitative research consisting of interviews of individuals and focus groups. The third part is a Faculty Exit Survey.

Part 1. UIC Faculty Work Climate Survey:
Apr 2004 The Climate Survey Questionnaire was distributed.
Jun 2004 UIC Climate Survey was collected.

June 2006 UIC Climate Survey Final Report Issued
The Climate Survey captured the perceptions (67% overall response rate) of all College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) and College of Engineering Faculty members regarding their workplace. The report summary showed that the factors with the biggest influence on faculty thoughts of leaving, either directly or indirectly, were overall satisfaction, departmental climate, and resource availability. Faculty who perceived the department as a positive place to work and who felt the resources were adequate were less likely to think seriously about leaving. Findings from the climate survey will serve as a baseline for several of the WISEST project outcomes. The final report on the findings from the UIC Faculty Work Climate Survey, conducted under the aegis of WISEST, was presented to the WISEST Executive Committee, the College of Engineering, and LAS. was posted on the WISEST, the Center for Research on Women and Gender, and the Faculty Affairs websites. Hard copies were disseminated to key campus leaders.

Jan 23, 2007 A Climate Survey Task Force was created to further analyze the results of the survey and make recommendations to the Provost based on survey data. The Task Force is chaired by Vice Chancellor for Research, Eric Gislason; members include the WISEST Executive Committee (sans the Provost) and Patricia Gill, Associate Chancellor for Human Resources, Office of Access & Equity, Darryl Pendleton, Associate Dean for Student and Diversity Affairs, College of Dentistry, Barbara Risman, Head, Department of Sociology

Part 2. Baseline Qualitative Research
February 1 - April 30 , 2007 Baseline Qualitative Research Implemented. 100% of the Department Facilitators and the Department Heads participated in focus groups and one-to-one interviews. This research provides insight into the current departmental climate and culture, transformation drivers, the use of current policies, and the impact of initiatives. Analysis of results?
