The specific WISEST project Strategies to warm the climate and decrease the isolation of women STEM faculty, attract and recruit women faculty, transform departments, promote STEM women’s scholarship and teaching, track and report on gender equity in STEM have met with some success. A very encouraging outcome is that the combination of WISEST start-up funds and SUCCEED faculty search committee training, together with the Provost’s Under represented Faculty Recruitment Program, and the climate changes resulting from WISEST activities dating back to the pre-ADVANCE WISEST of 2003-2006, have resulted in attracting and recruiting 20 tenure-track STEM women faculty out of 50 hires to start their careers at UIC in 2006-2010. WISEST leadership and the various Facilitator teams report the activities and outcomes here, grouped according to the strategies, which are in parallel with the Facilitator subcommittees. Here we report the extent, to which WISEST has, so far, attracted and recruited women faculty, supported and developed women faculty, showcased women scholars, carried out institutional transformation, improved gender bias awareness, prepared women for academic careers, and tracked climate and gender equity.
