College of Pharmacy Fire Update

Greetings-

With Alumni weekend upon us, I thought it appropriate to provide a brief update on the colleges status since the fire.  Upon returning from spring break on March 31, pharmacy students attended classes - all in the pharmacy building - for the first time since the Jan. 19 fire. Since the fire, most courses had been taught at locations scattered throughout campus and faculty members were moved to temporary offices in other buildings.

There is still more work to be done, and not everyone is back in the building yet, but we expect to be fully reoccupied in within the next month. The student computer lab is still closed so computers can be cleaned inside, the student locker room is not in use because it is storing cleanup equipment and a few faculty labs located near the fourth-floor fire remain closed. While we are physically back in many of our labs, we still have to recertify many pieces of equipment now that they have been cleaned from the fire.  It will be a few more weeks before research can fully begin. But all in all - we are extremely happy to be where we are at this time.

It has taken a lot of hard work by people who put in long hours to get us to this point. Thanks to the efforts of BMS Catastrophe, the Environmental Health and Safety Office, the full support of the University of Illinois and the cooperation of faculty, students and staff, we were able to move the reoccupation schedule along quicker than we initially anticipated.

I want to again thank all of our friends and alumni who called or wrote with their best wishes. Your support has been invaluable to all of us during this time. Should you have any questions, please feel to contact me.

Sincerely,

Jerry
