10:30 am - NOON Illinois Law Update (ACPE # 016-000-10-080-L03-P) -- Speakers: Ed Rickert, JD and Scott Meyers, RPh
Learning Objectives:
a. Differentiate between the requirements of the Illinois Pharmacy Practice Act and the recently passed and current act;
b. Describe the implications of the recent changes on current and future pharmacy practice;
c. Analyze other pharmacy and healthcare-related legislation pending in the Illinois General Assembly and translate each bill’s potential effect on pharmacy practice;
d. State recent case law findings related to pharmacy practice.

An Update on Diabetes Therapy (ACPE # 016-000-10-081-L01-P) -- Speaker: Daphne E. Smith-Marsh, PharmD, CD
Learning Objectives:
a. Describe the updated treatment algorithm for type 2 diabetes;
b. Compare the effects of medications which affect the incretin system;
c. Describe the role of sodium-glucose co-transport inhibitors in glucose homeostasis;
d. Identify new diabetes therapies in development.
Pain Management Update (ACPE # 016-000-10-082-L01-P) -- Speaker: Julie A. Golembiewski, BS ’80, PharmD ’93
Learning Objectives:
a. Discuss the reasons for the variability in response to opioids, the mainstay of therapy for moderate-severe pain;
b. Describe the concept of equianalgesia and recommend a process by which a patient would be switched from one opioid to another;
c. Contrast the differences between codeine, hydrocodone, morphine, hydromorpone, oxycodone, and methadone;
d. Recommend appropriate analgesia therapy following minor, moderate, and major surgery.
Helping Women Transition through Menopause (ACPE # 016-000-10-083-L01-P) -- Speaker: Louise Parent-Stevens, PharmD, BCPS
Learning Objectives:
a. Identify the treatment options for the management of menopausal symptoms;
b. List the risks and benefits of hormone replacement therapy in a postmenopausal woman;
c. List the strategies that minimize the risk postmenopausal osteoporosis;
d. Identify patients who should be screened and/or treated for osteoporosis.

The Rising Star Award recognizes young alumni of the College of Pharmacy who have already distinguished themselves in their professional achievements within 10 years of their graduation.
The highest honor given to an alumnus by the college, the award recognizes a graduate who stands as an innovator, exhibits leadership and has contributed significantly to the pharmacy profession.
This award is given annually to honor individuals who have left an invaluable and lasting impression on the College and the pharmacy profession as a whole.
This award was named in honor of a former faculty member to recognize a person who has been generous in their service to the profession, the community and/or the College.
