PREREQUISITE WAIVERS

Policy and Procedure

1.          Before a student can register for a College of Pharmacy course, he/she must have satisfactorily completed any required prerequisite coursework.

2.         In the event a student has not successfully completed (e.g. not taken it, received a grade of "E") a prerequisite course, he/she may submit a petition (letter) for waiver to the department head of the course that requires the prerequisite with a copy sent to the course coordinator responsible for the course the student would like to take.  A copy of this request must also be forwarded to the Office of Student Affairs.

3.          The course coordinator in cooperation with the department head will make a determination as to whether the circumstances of the petition to waive the prerequisite requirements warrant an exception to the normal policy.  If the course coordinator and department head decide to waive the prerequisite requirements, the reason must be documented in a letter by the department head and sent to the Office of Student Affairs for the student's file.

4.          A waiver will only be granted in extraordinary circumstances. A waiver will only be granted in extraordinary circumstances.

5.          If a student is granted a prerequisite waiver and is allowed to continue in a course sequence for which the prerequisite was not successfully completed, he or she must still repeat the course(s) that were not successfully completed before entering clerkship.
