The Pharmacy Alumni Reunion is organized by the College of Pharmacy and the Pharmacy Alumni Association Board of Directors. Alumni from all classes are welcome, and alumni from honored classes will receive special recognition.

Continuing Education Sessions

Target Audience: Pharmacists

Objectives: After attending these sessions, each participant should be able to:

Illinois Pharmacy Law Update

      • Differentiate between the requirements of the Illinois Pharmacy Practice Act and the recently passed and current act;
      • Describe the implications of the recent changes on current and future pharmacy practice
      • Analyze other pharmacy and healthcare-related legislation pending in the Illinois General Assembly and translate each bill's potential effect on pharmacy practice; and
      • State recent case law findings related to pharmacy practice act. 
Prophylaxis and Treatment with Low Molecular Weight Heparins (LMWH) in Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS): Dosing in special populations
      • Compare and contrast available LMWHs;
      • Evaluate the use of LMWHs for prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis;
      • Describe the role of appropriate dosing of LMWHs in the management of patients with DVT and ACS; and
      • Recommend LMWH dosing for various patient scenarios.
Update on Treatment of Epilepsy
  • Describe the difference between partial and generalized seizure disorder;
  • Explain the difference between the new formulations of AEDs;
  • List the most common acute and chronic adverse effects reported with AEDs; and
  • Recommend specific solutions to barriers for medication adherence.
These programs are made possible by educational grants from Lundbeck, Aventis and UCB.

ACPE
The University of Illinois at Chicago College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider or continuing pharmacy education. Attendance at the entire program, completion of the self-assessment questions and program evaluation are pre-requisites for receiving continuing education credit. A statement of credit verifying participation in 0.1 CEUs (1 contact hour) for each session attended will be sent to participants within 6 weeks of the program. These programs have been assigned ACPE Universal Activity Numbers 016-000-09-029-L03-P, 016-000-09-030-L01-P and 016-000-09-031-L01-P.

This award was named in honor of a former faculty member to recognize a person who has been generous in their service to the profession, the community and/or the College.
