Ryan Case Ryan Case, B.S. , studied the anti-TB activity of ethnobotanicals as well as randomly collected plants from Papua New Guinea.
Chulhun Chang Chulhun Chang, M.D., A clinical professor at Pusan National University in Korea, Dr. Chang developed an improved rapid, inexpensive drug susceptibility test.
Jun Chang Jun Chang, Ph.D. , Postdoctoral research associate. Dr. Chang studied the metabolome of non-replicating M. tuberculosis.
Chartchai Changsen Chartchai Changsen, B.Sc. , as an MD/PhD student (in Thailand), evaluated fluorescence reporters in the development of high throughput screening assays for anti-TB drugs.
Taylor Choi Taylor Choi , B.S. , Graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Biochemistry background. Taylor optimizies carbazoles and carbolines for anti-TB activity via organic synthesis and bioassay.
Sudsanguan (Jiab) Chusacultanachai Sudsanguan (Jiab) Chusacultanachai, Ph.D. , completed a Ph.D in biochemistry in 1999 at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign followed by posdoctoral research at the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in Thailand. Her work involved cloning and expression of dormancy-associated proteins for exploitation as drug targets as well as engineering gene reporter strains for use in high throughput screening against dormant/persistant M. tuberculosis.
Joost Crommentuyn Joost Crommentuyn, B.S. , Visiting Exchange Scholar, is a Pharmacy graduate student at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. He worked with Dr. Cho’s group in the high throughput screening of synthetic and natural product libraries.
Tate Curti Tate Curti, B.A. , has over 4 years experience in the health care field and is preparing to enter medical school. He was working with the high throughput screening team and assisting with lab safety compliance issues.
Kim Falzari Kim Falzari, Pharm.D. , Ph.D. candidate. Ms. Falzari holds a degree in Pharmacy from Italy. She investigated the basis of macrolide resistance in M. tuberculosis.
Priethika Hewage Priethika Nelum Hewage, M.S. , Research Specialist. Graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is assisting Dr. Krasnkyh with the sysnthesis of anti-TB heterocyclic compounds.
Sa Weon Hong Sa Weon Hong, Ph.D. , Postdoctoral fellow. A synthetic chemist who received his Ph.D from Yonsei University, Seoul. Dr Hong's research was on the synthesis of new macrolide antibiotics.
Taichi Inui Taichi Inui, B.S. , is a Pharmacognosy Ph.D. candidate with a Chemistry education. Mr. Inui's research interests are analytical phytochemistry and anti-TB natural products from plants. He worked under Guido Pauli on an ethnobotanical anti-TB potential drug lead from the Alaskan Flora.
JunaKurihara Juna Kurihara, B.S. , is a science illustrator who as studied at the U. of Tokyo, U. of Rhode Island and U.C. Santa Cruz and completed projects for the San Diego Supercomputer Center and Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. She is maintaining the ITR website and creating informational materials as well as managing data for the International Cooperative Biodiversity Program.
Namrita Lall Namrita Lall, Ph.D. , Visiting scientist coming from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, where she is working as a lecturer. Namrita pursued natural product anti-TB leads from a South African medicinal plant. Another focus of her work was on pharmacokinetic and pharmacological parameters of natural compounds.
XiangyangLei Xiangyang Lei, Ph.D. , aka Sunny, postdoctoral research associate. Dr. Lei received her degree in Organic and Medicinal Chemistry from Texas Christian University, and worked on the design and synthesis of new anti-TB compounds.
Wenzhong Liang Wenzhong Liang, Ph.D. , investigated the metabolism and pharmacokinetics of anti-TB macrolides.
Yinghui Liu Yinghui Liu, Ph.D. , worked on the synthesis of anti-TB macrolides.
Paraphan luangsook Praphan Luangsook, M.S , Ph.D. candidate from the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science at Mahidol University in Bangkok. Mr. Praphan pursued an anti-TB natural product lead from a Thai traditional medicinal herb.
Jialin Mao Jialin Mao, B.S. , Graduated from Fudan University with her degree in Pharmacy. Jialin is synthesizing mefloquine analogs as well as transition state analogs for inhibition of the M. tuberculosis DXS, and performing the metabolism and pharmacokinetic study on the potent analogs in vitro and in vivo. Co-advisors are Alan Kozikowski and Scott Franzblau.
Dennis Pak Dennis Pak, B.S. , Graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with biological sciences background. He was assisting Dr. Cho with quality control of bacterial cell culture, maintenance, and general drug-screening projects.
Dahua Pan Dahua Pan, Ph.D. , Postdoctoral fellow. Worked on macrolide synthesis and computational analysis as well as on in silico screening of compound libraries against dormancy-related targets.
SamuelPro Samuel Pro , joined ITR as an IT specialist while continuing to work on his Bachelor's degree at Uniersity of Illinois at Chicago's Engineering College. Mr. Pro provided the ITR community with support and expertise in IT, and was involved in the data management and data mining aspects of our research activities.
Kamolchanok Rukseree Kamolchanok Rukseree, Ph.D. , aka Mod, recently completed studies of the TB fructose 1,6 bisphosphate aldolase at Mahidol University in Bangkok. She is pursuing several target-based drug discovery projects in the ITR including the aldolase and malate synthase.
Diana Cardona Sanchez Diana Cardona Sanchez, B.S , is a pharmacist and currently studying for her doctorate degree in Organic Chemistry of Natural Products at Universidad de Antioquia in Medellin, Colombia. In the ITR, she evaluated the anti-TB activity of several Colombian plant extracts, natural products and synthetic compounds.
Daisy Nakamura Sato Daisy Nakamura Sato, Ph.D , joined the ITR for a 3-month "sandwich" program as part of her dissertation research on the use of luciferase reporters. She is currently conducting research at UNESP in Araraquara, Brazil.
Kate Schellinger Kate Schellinger, B.S , is an MPH student who purified and screened compounds against the M. tuberculosis malate synthase and panthentate synthetase.
Saradee Warit Saradee Warit, Ph.D , Postdoctoral fellow. A molecular biologist who received her Ph.D. from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, Dr. Warit was recruited from BIOTEC in Thailand. She is profiling gene expression in response to established and new anti-TB agents.
Di Wei Di Wei, M.P.H , Research Specialist. Graduated from Wuhan University with a microbiology background. Mr. Wei worked with Dr. Cho, focusing on fermentor culture and metabolome analysis and also was the biostatistical specialist in the ITR.
Gengli Yu Gengli Yu, Ph.D , Visiting Research Specialist. After receiving his Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry in 1999 from Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Yu worked as a postdoctoral fellow at UW-Madison and then at Parker Hughes Cancer Center, Minnesota. At ITR, he synthesized new anti-TB compounds.
Fangqui Zhang Fangqui Zhang, M.D., M.S. , Research Specialist. A graduate of Shanghai Medical University, Dr. Zhang worked with Dr. Franzblau in Louisiana for 2 years and was responsible for much of the technology transfer to ITR. She evaluated the anti-TB activity of compounds in vitro and in vivo.
Zhaohai Zhu Zhaohai Zhu, Ph.D. , Research Assistant Professor. After receiving his Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry in 1996 from Miami University, Ohio, Dr. Zhu worked six years as a medicinal chemist in Parker Hughes Cancer Center, Minnesota. Leads a group of chemists in the synthesis of new anti-TB compounds.
