NIH: ODS and NCCAM
The UIC / NIH Center for Botanical Dietary Supplements Research has partnered with The National Institutes of Health’s Office of Dietary Supplements (ODS) as well as the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM). The UIC Botanical Center has been the grateful recipient of a Center Grant (P50 AT00155 ) from ODS and NCCAM since 1999 and while the UIC / NIH Botanical Center is supported by NIH, it should be noted that the contents of our web site and publications do not necessarily represent the official views of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, the Office of Dietary Supplements, or the National Institutes of Health.
Northwestern Memorial Hospital
Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH), located in Chicago has represented a second site for the UIC / NIH Botanical Center’s Phase II Clinical trial. A Phase II, Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study to Determine the Efficacy of Black Cohosh and Red Clover in the management of Menopausal Symptoms. NMH-based study physician Lee Shulman and study coordinator Suzanne Banuvar have played key roles in recruiting and monitoring patients for this important clinical trial. Northwestern Memorial Hospital is a Center for numerous clinical studies, sponsored by government and industry.
Hopsteiner
Hopsteiner is a German based company with hops agricultural and production sites worldwide, including the United States. Hopsteiner’s primary business is providing hops to the beer industry. Hops adds flavor, texture and aroma during the beer making process – beer would not taste like beer without the contribution of hops. Hopsteiner is working with the Botanical Center, providing spent-hops for research in the area of women’s health.
Naturex
Naturex, a French based company with manufacturing centers in the United States, is a processor and manufacturer of botanicals used by companies throughout the United States and the world for product formulation and distribution throughout the botanical dietary supplement supply-chain continuum. Naturex has been a key donor of raw material for research and study by the UIC / NIH Botanical Center.
Pharmavite
Pharmavite, LLC has been a donor to the UIC / NIH Botanical Center and a key partner in scaling up botanical formulations for use in the Center’s clinical trial. Pharmavite is a manufacturer and distributor of brand name botanical dietary supplements and supplies proprietary formulations for branding to distributors.
