About the Department
Mission Statement
Our Department is committed to preparing students for their chosen career. Educational experiences are provided by faculty members actively engaged in teaching and in research areas such as nanopharmacy, pharmaceutics, molecular genetics, pharmacogenomics, pharmacology, and forensic science and toxicology. These faculty members perform innovative research, scholarly activity and undertake appropriate entrepreneurial activities.
The faculty contributes to the excellence of the College of Pharmacy and University through effective service at the committee, community, and public levels in areas of their expertise that ultimately benefit the citizens of Illinois. The fulfillment of these responsibilities is directed toward increasing the understanding of drug delivery, drug action, and rational drug therapy in an environment of personal, professional and intellectual growth with the ultimate goal of improving medical and pharmaceutical care.
Vision Statement
By 2010, the Department of Biopharmaceutical Sciences will grow substantially with the recruitment of faculty members with research strengths in the new field of nanopharmacy, novel methods of targeted drug delivery, cancer and carcinogenesis, cell and molecular pharmacology, pharmacogenomics, and forensic science and toxicology. The department will maintain its highly valued status among the university, state, and pharmacy schools and colleges by achieving excellence in all its programs and activities.
