BPS PhD Program Application Procedure

Students wishing to apply to the BPS graduate program for Fall admission should submit an application to the University of Illinois at Chicago by the following deadlines:

January 15 (priority deadline for all applicants, particularly for Fellowships)
February 15 (absolute deadline for international applicants)
May 15 (absolute deadline for domestic applicants)

Applications received after the priority deadline of January 15th but before the University of Illinois at Chicago Deadlines, will be considered only if we do not fill the class from the applicants whose applications have been submitted by the priority deadline.Only the applications submitted by Jan 15th will be considered for Fellowships. BPS does not typically accept students in any term other than Fall.

To apply, the following information should be submitted :


  • Online application
  • Current application fee
  • Graduate Record Examination scores (verbal, quantitative and analytical/analytical writing) reported from ETS :

    The following required materials can be either electronically uploaded (preferred) using UIC application website or mailed to BPS Director of Graduate Studies :

  • Three (3) letters of recommendation (form); the letters should be either requested during the online application procedure (a secure web-link for document upload will be emailed to the reference) or mailed to the department
  • A personal statement outlining your objectives for graduate study (~1 page);
  • A resume or curriculum vitae
  • All applicants must mail official transcripts to BPS Director of Graduate Studies:
    • Official, unopened transcripts from all Baccalaureate Degrees and Baccalaureate level courses (or equivalent);
    • Official, unopened transcripts from any Graduate or Professional education;

  • International students must also send official "Proof of Degree" for any degrees that have been completed.
  • The Declaration and Certification of Finances does not need to be completed at the time of application to the Biopharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Program. Admitted students will be required to submit the document following accepting the offer.

  • BPS program applicants are strongly encouraged to submit published research documents with applicant authorship and/or research related materials (upload under "Research Document" online or mail to the department).
  • To expedite the application process, all applicants should send a photocopy of their Graduate Record Examination(GRE) scores to the BPS Director of Graduate Studies.
  • The UIC online application site also allows applicants to upload Miscellaneous Academic Documents (for example, non-credit courses and/or certificates) and Supplemental Application (available for materials that do not fall into a research or academic category).

Application materials do not need to be sent as one package, but this would be helpful.

Pharm.D./Ph.D. applicants should supply the DGS with copies of all the required documents indicated above, except application and fee, as well as a copy of formal application to the Pharm.D. program.
