Xiaolong He Wins $75,000 to Study microRNA's Role in Ovarian Cancer

Xiaolong He Wins Marsha Rivkin Grant of $75,000 to Study
MicroRNA's Role in Ovarian Cancer

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the most lethal gynecological malignancy with the majority of patients surviving less than 5 years. The Marsha Rivkin Grants support the most novel approaches to ovarian cancer research which have the best potential to prevent, detect, treat and understand the disease.

Dr. Xiaolong He's research will take a closer look at the role of microRNAs, a new class of non-coding small RNA molecules, which have recently emerged as important players in the regulation of tumor development. He hopes that the funding for this pilot study will open the doors for further studying the role of microRNAs in human tumorigenesis.

Project begins April 2010.
