Message from the Head

Welcome from the Department Head

Dear Visitor:

As the Head of the Department of Pharmacy Administration, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our website.  Whether you are a prospective pharmacy student, prospective graduate student, faculty member, parent, alumnus, friend of the College of Pharmacy, or just interested in learning more about our Department, my hope is that this website will serve your purpose.

The Department of Pharmacy Administration has a rich tradition in the teaching, research, and service mission of the College of Pharmacy and the University of Illinois at Chicago.  Our faculty are known for their teaching, research, and service expertise and their contribution to the advancement of the College and its students and the profession of pharmacy.  In addition, the Department enjoys a wonderful cadre of American and International graduate students who are earning their Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees.

Among other accomplishments of which we are proud, recently, through the leadership of Professor Bruce Lambert, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) established a Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics (CERT) program within the Department.  It is only one of 14 nationwide to broaden the range of knowledge to help the health care system make measurable improvements in the quality and safety of medications and other treatments.  In a joint effort, the Department faculty works with the Department of Pharmacy Practice through the UIC Center for Pharmacoeconomic Research (CPR).  Previously, AHRQ designated the CPR as one of 13 research centers in the country responsible to conduct research to evaluate the Medicare Part D benefit. These 13 centers are referred to by the acronym DEcIDE which stands for “Developing Evidence to Inform Decisions about Effectiveness.”  What is noteworthy is that the UIC College of Pharmacy is the only USA college of pharmacy to have a CERTs and a DeCIDE center.
