Mission and Vision Statements

MISSION STATEMENT

The Department of Pharmacy Practice is both an academic department within the College of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and a service unit within the University of Illinois Medical Center. It is composed of faculty and staff that are teachers, scholars and/or practitioners. Members of the department, the most comprehensive unit of its type in the United States, continue a tradition of exemplary service through the following activities.

  1. Educate and train Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students, post-PharmD residents and fellows, and practicing pharmacists who become nationally recognized for their leadership, knowledge and competence in practice, research, and/or teaching roles.
  2. Provide innovative pharmacy services in both the inpatient and ambulatory setting to the diverse patient populations of the University of Illinois Medical Center and affiliated sites.
  3. Create through research, and disseminate in the biomedical literature, new scientific knowledge about the effective, safe, and economical use of medications with the intent of improving the rational use of drugs in patients and in society.
  4. Advocate professional roles for pharmacists on national and international levels.
  5. Collaborate with other health science professionals in teaching, service and research activities.
  6. Serve the public through presentations to professional audiences and service to professional societies, both in the United States and internationally.
  7. Create entrepreneurial opportunities that advance pharmacy practice and further the professional and financial interests of the department, medical center, college, and university.

VISION STATEMENT

The Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Illinois at Chicago will become the preeminent such department in the nation, widely recognized for its contributions in scholarship and research, its educational and training programs and its integral and visible patient care services within the University of Illinois Medical Center.
