Residency and Fellowship Certificate Ceremony
June 8th, 2011
An exuberant group gathered June 8th at Moss Auditorium for the Department of Pharmacy Practice Residency and Fellowship Certificate Program. The program, held annually, acknowledges the hard work of PGY1 and PGY2 Residents, as well as acknowledging their completion of the residency program supervised through the Department of Pharmacy Practice. PGY1 Residents Lenna Amine, Elisabeth Donahey, Meghan Hayes, Jessica Jacobson, Sean Kane, Tatyana Lawrecki, Kevin McConeghy, Mark Pangrazzi, Mabel Rodriguez, Melinda Soriano, Usasiri Srisakul, and Krista Williams were all praised by Residency Director Frank Paloucek for their hard work and dedication which helped them complete the rigorous program. Dr. Paloucek also shared anecdotes for every resident, painting clearly just how much their presence will be missed throughout the department. In the aspect of Community Care, PGY1 Residents Caitlin Kaminski Malone, Brittany Mills, and Quynh Nguyen were praised for their accomplishments at Jewel Ocso, Walgreens, and Dominicks respectively. Receiving the John McBride Award for Excellence in Hospital Pharmacy Service was Jessica Jacobson while Sean Kane received the Richard A. Hutchinson Award, an award established to honor the innovative man who instituted the Pharmacy Practice Residency Program. Jessica Jacobson, Sean Kane, and Tatyana Lawrecki will be continuing on in the PGY2 residency program at UIC while Melinda Soriano will continue at UIC as a departmental fellow. Those residents not remaining at UIC will continue to pursue their careers as close as the University of Chicago, and as far away as Siam University in Thailand. The Residents showed their appreciation for faculty members by presenting Michael T. Johnson with a Rookie of the Year award for his invaluable help while Jan Engle was presented her own personal Hollywood Walk-of-Fame star for her never-ending support of the residents.
PGY2 students were honored alongside their colleagues: Tara Gleason of Ambulatory Care, Adam Bress of Cardiology, Karen Berger of Critical Care, Sherilyn Van Osdol of Drug Information, Laura Celmins of Emergency Medicine, Emily Huesgen of Infectious Diseases, Kelly Valla of Oncology, Lynley Heinrich of Organ Transplantation, and Lauren Dandeles of Pediatrics were honored by their respective Residency Directors. Excellent work completed in Fellowships was also acknowledged at the ceremony. Youjung Yang, Funda Tiryaki, and Firas Dabbous of Health Economics and Outcomes Research, as well as Tonya Crawford of Infectious Diseases were commended for their outstanding work ranging in part from becoming published authors to well-representing the Department of Pharmacy Practice in conferences throughout the nation. All honored at the Awards Ceremony exemplify the exemplary work of Department of Pharmacy Practice faculty in producing excellence, and the faculty is proud to see these excellent professionals continue forth in their careers representing UIC and the Department of Pharmacy Practice.
