Drs. Sodhi and Duarte receive Vahlteich Research Award
Drs. Monsheel Sodhi and Julio D. Duarte receive honored Vahlteich Research Award
On February 22nd 2013 at the UIC College of Pharmacy Research Day, Drs. Monsheel Sodhi and Julio D. Duarte were presented with the Vahlteich Research Award. The endowment fund was created from the estates of Drs. Hans and Ella McCollumn Vahlteich. To date this award has funded over $1,000,000 in research projects supporting a number of scientists. The Department of Pharmacy Practice congratulates Drs. Sodhi and Duarte for receiving this distinguished award
“Nebivolol for Pulmonary Hypertension Associated with Diastolic Hearth Failure”: Dr. Duarte’s research will focus on using genomics to better understand the pathways involved in development of pulmonary hypertension, and developing novel treatments for the disease.
“Discovering Novel Targets for the Treatment of Major Depression”: Dr. Sodhi’s research will focus on screening for RNA edited molecultes that may be contributing to the vulnerability of patients to modd disorders and suicide, using genetic and bioinformatics approahces. The data generated from these studies will faciliate the development of drugs with greater efficacy in the prevention of suicide.
