Bishop Receives 2008 Young Investigator Award from NARSAD
Jeffrey Bishop, PharmD, tenure-track assistant professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice, recently received the 2008 Young Investigator Award from NARSAD, the world’s largest and leading charitable organization committed to mental health research.
Dr. Bishop’s goal in his two year research project is to define the relationship between glutamate receptor variants and response to antipsychotic treatment in schizophrenia. The study will focus 70 risperidone treated patients from the Chicago First Episode Psychosis Program. This research will be conducted together with Dr. John Sweeney, who is Professor and Director of the Center for Cognitive Medicine in the UIC Department of Psychiatry.
Other awards Dr. Bishop has received since he joined the faculty in November 2005 include the UIC Campus Research Board Award, 2006 Frontiers Research Award from the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, 2006 New Investigator Award from the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the 2007-2008 Hans W. Vahlteich Research Award.
