The Pathways to Pharmacy Program

In a proactive and ambitious move to help combat the severe shortage of minorities in the health care professions, the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Pharmacy has partnered with CVS/pharmacy, the Coalition for United Community Labor Force (CUCLF)  and the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) to offer a pharmacy workforce development program targeting Chicago high school students.

The unique program prepares high school students interested in pursuing pharmacy or other related health professions as a career. Students are exposed to work-based learning, personal and leadership development, and mentoring as well as college level academic enrichment activities.

Coalition for United Community Labor Force (CUCLF)

The CUCLF, under Rev. John Hatchett, has been a strong grassroots leader in the pursuit of economic parity for Chicago’s minority residents. Over the years, CUCLF has worked with numerous organizations, leading corporations, institutions of higher education and governmental agencies to empower minorities through increased employment.

Chicago Public Schools (CPS)

CPS Education to Careers (ETC) Programs prepare students for their lives beyond the classroom by combining a rigorous academic program with career and technical education, hands-on training and exposure to the career world.

CVS/pharmacy

CVS is known for celebrating differences among people and values the participation and contributions of all its employees. As such, it attracts, develops and retains the best talent in the workplace. Their commitment to diversity can be seen in their various initiatives with minority community advocacy groups and their efforts to increase the numbers of underrepresented minorities in the pharmacy profession.
