Hans W. Vahlteich Research Scholar Award
History of the Award |
The Vahlteich Research Awards in the UIC College of Pharmacy are funded by the income generated by the Hans and Ella McCollum Vahlteich Endowment Fund. This fund was created from the estates of the Drs. Vahlteich following their death and totaled nearly $1.4 million. Hans, who earned his Graduate in Pharmacy (PhG) and Pharmaceutical Chemist (PhC) degrees from the college in 1917 and 1918, respectively, died in August 1989; Ella, who earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from Columbia University, died in November of 1984. To date, the award has funded over $1,000,000 in research endeavors supporting number of scientists in their work.
Former Vahlteich recipients continue to succeed. The last ten Vahlteich awardees received over $18M in external research funding to date, with 90% of Scholars securing NIH grants among other sources of their funding.
