Typical progression:

1. You'll be assigned 2-5 P1 students annually.

2. Meet with each student soon thereafter to begin developing a relationship (develop rapport and build trust) and to negotiate an agreement regarding expectations about meeting types, frequency and communications, e.g.. preferred mode of contact.   Click here for a copy of an agreement form.

3. Ask the student to actively share, i.e., allow you access to, his/her electronic portfolio.

· The College uses the portfolio to house student experiential reflections which document student learning for accreditation.  In agreement with your advisee, you may add content to the portfolio for the student’s career/professional development documentation.

· Each semester, you will be asked to review your advisee’s experiential reflection, use a rubric to evaluate it and enter your evaluation on the Blackboard system for the assignment.

4. We recommend you meet with students at least every semester--individually or in a group--depending on your original    agreement(s).

Advising Program

Your relationships with your advisees evolve through various stages (See Figure below). You cannot expect to jump right into directing students towards goal achievement. Students must feel comfortable with you before they can be influenced toward goal achievement by you.
