Office of Student Affairs

Student Attendance at Off-Campus Meetings

Overview
The UIC College of Pharmacy faculty encourages student participation in pharmacy professional and association activities at local, regional, state, and national levels.

The purpose of the guidelines is two-fold: to provide advanced warning to faculty and to require students to be pro-active in making advanced arrangements for missed work/class.

These are suggested guidelines. Course coordinators maintain the right to make individual decisions regarding their courses.

Guidelines

  1. In order for students to travel to professional or association meetings, they should be in good academic standing.
  2. Students are encouraged to be in the second semester of their first professional year (or later) in order to travel to meetings, events, etc.
  3. Priority should be given to students giving presentations or holding an office in a student organization that will meet at the professional or association meetings.
  4. Students are responsible, via an organization representative, for contacting course coordinators whose courses will be affected by student attendance at off-campus meetings. Each organization is responsible for compiling a list of names of students to be given to course coordinators no later than two weeks prior to the off-campus meeting. The organization representative should reach resolution with course coordinators about how and when missed assignments, exams, etc. will be made up; if students fail to make arrangements in advance, there is no guarantee that a satisfactory solution will be available.
  5. Course coordinators are encouraged to incorporate these guidelines or their own policies for student attendance at off campus meetings into their course syllabi.
