UIC enrolls almost 25,000 students in undergraduate, graduate and
professional programs. The opportunities for students in learning,
research, service, and 'real-world' experiences are abundant and rich.
UIC provides a wide array of opportunities for growth for its students
both intellectually and socially.
UIC offers a range of academic programs that allow students to pursue
research interests with renowned faculty. Campus partnerships with
businesses, community organizations, cultural centers and health-care
centers throughout the Chicago area provide students with a wealth
of options for internships and co-op programs and community service.
Faculty and students in their classes take advantage of the 'learning
laboratory' that is Chicago. UIC also takes advantage of Chicago's
international position as a global leader in commerce, health care
and the arts.
The diversity of UIC students represents one of the greatest assets
of the campus. UIC is ranked among the top ten universities in the
country for the diversity of its student body. There is no single
majority group among the entering freshmen at UIC. The students at
UIC represent the same ethnic diversity that is found in the Chicago
area and the array of languages that can be heard around the campus
attests to the richness and depth of the cultural heritage that they
bring to UIC.
The same breadth of diversity that we find among UIC students in
their ethnic heritage is also found in the many types of students
who choose to come to UIC. There is no 'typical story' for our students.
The Student Portfolio attempts to tell some of the stories of UIC
students as well as provide some information on student programs
and the student profile at our campus.
