JessicaA Single Piece of Writing

English 160 had such a friendly atmosphere -- a great part of my first college experience. I refined my writing and learned research skills. Our class discussion was stimulating; everybody had their say and remarked on what others said. There was a good flow.

The topic was authority and it helped you see writing as authoritative where you didn't see it that way before. The readings were really great but the absolute best was Martin Luther King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail." It was empowering for me to see how much impact a single piece of writing can have; after demonstrating, King wrote this letter as a response to other clergy who were opposed to King's methods. You see what an effective leader King was, how he refuted the other clergy's arguments so precisely and with such authority!
